I'm playing a $4 MLB DraftKings Pick'em Team for this Friday. The format is that you pick 8 players from 8 different pools. DraftKings sets up the pools. So, for example, if you choose to put Dallas Kuechel on your team, you can't put Corey Kluber on your team. Check out the team I put together for this Friday.
MLB DraftKings Pick'em Team for Friday, August 18.
T1 – Max Scherzer, Washington at San Diego – The Padres have 13 hits from 72 at-bats versus Scherzer. That's a .181 batting average. What's better? How about 23 strikeouts from the 72 at-bats? It's a given that Scherzer gets 10Ks today.
He throws at Petco Park, one of the friendliest places in MLB for pitchers. The Padres can't face his heat as it is. The last time Scherzer saw the Friars, he pounded them for 13 strikeouts in 8.2 innings pitched. He allowed a single earned run off 3 hits. That was in Washington. Wait until he throws at Petco.
T2 – Zach Godley, Arizona at Minnesota – It's always a risk adding a pitcher from one league that faces a team from the other league. Such is the case with Zach Godley. I believe he can dominate Minnesota because Twin batters have never faced Godley.
Godley's ERA in away games is a decent 2.72. That's enough for me to take him over the other T2 choices: Ervin Santana, Jeremy Hellickson, Trevor Williams, Andrew Cashner, German Marquez, R.A. Dickey, and Chris Stratton.
T3 – Mike Trout, L.A. Angels at Baltimore – Mike Trout is 3 out of 8 with a home run and a double versus Jeremy Hellickson, Baltimore's listed starter on Friday. Hellickson's ERA in his last 5 innings pitched is 10.80. The OPS at Baltimore is .780.
Everything has aligned for Trout to have a monster game. Plus, the Angels are on fire. LAA has won 7 of their last 8. 2 of the 7 wins were over Baltimore.
T4 – Joey Votto, Cincinnati at Atlanta – R.A. Dickey, Atlanta's listed starter for August 18, has been throwing well. But, Joey Votto is 4 out of 9 versus Dickey. He's hit a homerun and a double. His batting average is a terrific .444.
Dickey's home ERA is 3.30. That's not bad. Votto could go 0 for 4 today. My hope is that he doesn't.
T5 – Justin Turner, L.A. Dodgers at Detroit – Jordan Zimmerman faced the L.A. Dodgers often while throwing for the Washington Nationals. Zimmerman only allows a .227 batting average from the best team in baseball.
That's not bad at all. When it comes to Justin Turner, though, Zimmerman has had little success. Turner bats .571 versus Zimmerman. He's got 4 hits from 7 at-bats.
T6 – Yoenis Cespedes, NY Mets vs Miami – Cespedes has been on fire until his last 2 games. He's gone 1 and 5 in his last 5 at-bats. Miami's listed starter is Justin Nicolino. Cespedes is 2 out of 6 versus Nicolino. One of the hits was a home run. Yoenis could surprise tonight.
T7 – D.J. LeMahieu, Colorado vs Milwaukee – LeMahieu bats .500 versus Milwaukee listed starter Matt Garza. LeMahieu has 4 hits and 3 RBIs from 8 at-bats versus Garza. His home batting average is .321. He should get at least 2 hits tonight.
T8 – Marcel Ozuna, Miami at NY Mets – Mets' listed starter Chris Flexen has never faced the Marlins before. I believe Ozuna could dominate Flexen in this game. He's been hot. Plus, who are you going to walk? Stanton, Yelich, or Ozuna?
Stanton went 3 for 4 in Miami's game on august 18. It's Ozuna's turn, who bats cleanup, to go 2 for 4. I'm expecting at least one extra base hit. I also believe Ozuna might go yard tonight because Flexen's ERA is 7.02.
