I put together an MLB DraftKings Team for Friday, July 14. Check it out!
MLB DraftKings Team for Friday, July 14.
P – James Paxton, $9,900, Seattle at Chicago White Sox – Paxton does have a 4.28 ERA in away games. Still, I like the cost. The Chicago White Sox have only faced James Paxton 21 times. They haven't faced Paxton yet in 2017. His ERA of 3.21 and 7-3 record implies he should have no trouble holding the White Sox to 1, maybe, 2 runs. That might be good enough on a Friday where there aren't a ton of world beaters at the pitcher position.
P – Johnny Cueto, $8,900, San Francisco at San Diego – Cueto at $8,900 could be a salary cap steal. San Diego bats .138 against him as it is. The average BA at Petco Park is .241. Cueto should have no trouble getting close to the double-digit mark in strikeouts versus the Padres on July 14.
C – Welington Castillo, $3,200, Baltimore vs Chicago Cubs – I'm going against Chicago Cubs starter Mike Montgomery today. In his last 3 starts, the Cubs have yielded 5 runs, 11 runs, and 14 runs. Montgomery only lasted 3 innings against Pittsburgh on July 9. Baltimore can hit.
Castillo was horrible to end the first half. Maybe, the days off is what he needed. Not only that, but since Montgomery is a lefty, Castillo could see the ball better.
1B – Eric Hosmer, $4,200, Kansas City vs Texas – Hosmer has a .318 batting average. Hosmer bats .400 versus today's Texas Rangers' starter Martin Perez. He should have some success on July 14.
2B – Jonathan Schoop, $4,100, Baltimore vs Chicago Cubs – Schoop is batting .295. He has 18 home runs. His on-base percentage is .347. He should bat second in today's line-up. I hope he gets to see Montgomery at least twice before the O's run the Cubs' pitcher off the mound.
3B – Manny Machado, $4,300, Baltimore vs Chicago Cubs – Machado heated up towards the end of the first half of the regular season. He recorded 8 hits, and 6 RBIs in his last 14 at-bats. Montgomery might not stand much chance versus Machado. He's another right-handed hitter against lefty Montgomery.
SS – Xander Bogaerts, $4,100, Boston vs NY Yankees – The Yankees haven't said who is starting today. I'm not sure it should matter. Bogaerts has a .303 batting average. My feeling is that he hits well today because it's the Yankees, Boston's biggest nemesis.
OF – Cody Bellinger, $4,300, L.A. Dodgers at Miami – Miami's Dan Straily has pitched well this season. Bellinger should have the advantage on Friday, though. He's 1 for 3 versus Straily. The last time Straily took the mound against the Dodgers, he lasted 5.2 innings. LAD beat Miami 10 to 6. Bellinger went 2 for 4, scored 2 runs, and drove in a run.
OF – Adam Jones, $3,700, Baltimore vs Chicago Cubs – Isn't it time Adam Jones lit someone up? the 31-year-old from San Diego only has 15 home runs. That's no where near what he's capable of. He's only batting .267. I think he could be huge for me today.
OF – Joey Rickard, $3,300, Baltimore vs Chicago Cubs – Rickard might only get 1 at-bat. Then again, the Cubs are an NL team. Hopefully, Buck Showalter lets him go crazy today. I think he could be ultra effective against Mike Montgomery. That's my hope at least. He recorded only 9 total at-bats in Baltimore's last 5 games before the All-Star Break. 5 of the at-bats he recorded in 1 game.
