DraftKings NBA DFS contests are back. Tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 17, is opening night of the 2017-2018 NBA Season. I've put together an NBA DFS team for tonight. Check it out!
PG – Kyrie Irving, $8,300, Boston at Cleveland
While a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Irving averaged 25.2 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.2 boards per game. Kyrie is now Boston's top player. He should eclipse those averages this season. How good could Kyrie be in this game versus the Cavaliers? I think he gains more fantasy points than either LeBron or James Harden in Houston's game against Golden State.
SG – Dwayne Wade, $5,200, Cleveland vs Boston
D-Wade's the missing piece for the Cavaliers to challenge Golden State for the 2018 NBA Championship. LeBron is listed as questionable while D-Wade is 100% healthy. Although there will be parts of tonight's game where Wade takes a back seat, it's important to note that Wade averaged 18 points, 3.8 assists, and 4.5 boards last season. With so much attention going to K-Love and LeBron, Wade could steal the show tonight.
SF – Kevin Durant, $9,600, Golden State vs Houston
In addition to the 25 points per game from last season, Durant also averaged close to 9 boards and 4.5 assists. His numbers won't have to go up by much for KD to be a force versus the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night. Durant is the most consistent of all Golden State players. That's the way I see it.
PF – Jae Crowder, $4,300, Cleveland vs Boston
Crowder is another player that the Cavaliers acquired from the Celtics for trading point-guard Kyrie Irving. Crowder is an underrated power forward. He should easily do better than his 14 points and 6 boards per game averages from a season ago. Tonight, the matchup favors him because Marcus Morris, Boston's starting power forward, is out for the next couple of weeks.
C – Al Horford, $6,000, Boston at Cleveland
Gordon Heyward, Boston's other big time acquisition this summer, is at $6,800. I believe Horford is the value play in Boston's front line. He could have a big night now that Jae Crowder is with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Last season, Horford averaged close to 7 boards, 14 points, and over a block a game.
G – Klay Thompson, $6,200, Golden State vs Houston
I decided to put Klay on the team because I didn't want to spend the $2,000 more in salary for Steph. I know this could backfire. Thompson doesn't always perform every night. Versus Houston, I believe he performs. Maybe, it's more hope than belief.
F – Trevor Ariza, $4,500, Houston at Golden State
Trevor averaged close to 6 boards and close to 12 points per game. With the addition of PG Chris Paul, Ariza might post better fantasy numbers this season than he did last season. We'll see how he plays tonight. The salary, $4,500, screams value.
Util – Clint Capela, $5,600, Houston at Golden State
I had Derek Rose penciled in at $5,000 as my utility player. Then, I read that Coach Lue wants Rose to run the second unit when D-Wade, LeBron, and K-Love are taking a breather. That's not a bad idea from Lue's point-of-view.
I think reading that helped me. Clint Capela has had a fantastic preseason. He could turn into one of the better centers this season. He should have no trouble producing more fantasy points than Golden State's starting center, Zaza Pachulia, in tonight's opening game.
