We're only a couple of days from NFL Week 1 Sunday. This season, I'm playing both an NFL DraftKings Pick'em Team and an NFL DraftKings Classic Team every Sunday. Below is my NFL Week 1 Classic DFS Team. Check it out!
QB Derek Carr, $6,700, Oakland at Tennessee – Carr projects to have one of the better games in Week 1. The reason has as much to do with Tennessee's rush defense as it does with Oakland's offense. Don't get me wrong. I think Derek Carr is a terrific QB. He should definitely throw for over 30 TDs this season. But, the matchup versus Tennessee in Week 1 is particularly juicy. The Titans allowed 88.3 rushing yards per game last season.
Tennessee figures to be better against the pass. It may not matter. Oakland's offense is predicated upon a great passing attack.
RB Isaiah Crowell, $5,300, Cleveland vs Pittsburgh – Crowell faces a Pitt D that allowed an average of 100 rushing yards per game last season. Crowell is one of the better pass-catching RBs in the NFL. He caught 40 passes last season. He averaged 8 yards per catch. That's impressive. For $5,300, I can add a workhorse versus a suspect defense at home for Week 1. I'll take it!
RB Carlos Hyde, $4,600, San Francisco vs Carolina – Last season the Panthers only allowed 91.6 rushing yards per game. No matter. Hyde isn't just a rushing RB. He should be on the field for most, if not every, play against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Hyde could pull a Devonta Freeman with Kyle Shanahan as his head coach. SF QB starter Brian Hoyer is a huge upgrade from Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick.
WR Antonio Brown, $8,800 – I penciled in Julio Jones in this spot. Then, I took a hard look at the Bears' defense. Chicago has a decent pass defense while Da Bears are terrible versus the rush. Brown should have a decent game even with Martavis Bryant back. Bryant has talent. But, how many seasons can he take off, how many games, before it catches up to him?
Antonio is solid. Plus, the Browns let go of their best cornerback, Joe Haden, which leaves me to wonder who's going to cover Antonio down field. I'll go with Brown instead of Julio in Week 1.
WR DeVante Adams, $5,200, Green Bay vs Seattle – Jordy Nelson is at $7,600. I feel like I'm getting some value here with DeVante. He scored 14 TDs last season while catching 91 passes. He could have a game better or equal to Jordy on Sunday.
WR Terrelle Pryor Sr., $6,100, Washington vs Philadelphia – D.C. didn't give Terrelle Pryor a giant contract just to keep him on the bench. He has the ability to beat virtually any cornerback in the NFL. If Kirk Cousins wants the huge contract, he should go to the Pryor well early and often in every game this season.
TE Delanie Walker, $4,300, Tennessee vs Oakland – I love Walker's match up versus an Oakland team that allowed 257.5 passing yards per game in 2016. Walker should remain Marcus Mariota's security blanket even though the Titans drafted WR Corey Davis in Round 1. Coach Mike Mularkey has stated that they're using Davis on a situational basis.
FLEX Todd Gurley, RB, $6,000, L.A. Rams vs Indianapolis – The Colts' defense is just plain bad. Gurley could be a fantasy star on Sunday. Think about it. Sean McVay knows what he's got with Gurley. I think he feeds Gurley in both the passing and rushing games all day long. The mammalia team that plays in La-La-Land could score over 30 points versus the Colts' D.
DST Arizona Cardinals, $2,800, Arizona at Detroit – The Cardinals boast a super-aggressive offense. But, the real reason there's value here is because Detroit averaged 21.6 points per game. The Lions don't play a fancy offensive system. QB Matthew Stafford loves to manage the clock.
I believe I've got a shot at winning a few bucks with my Week 1 DraftKings Classic team. Good luck in NFL Week 1!
