NFL Week 1 starts tomorrow when the Kansas City Chiefs head to New England to battle the Patriots. The real action starts this Sunday. I've listed my Top Value WRs for Week 1. I've also listed the 3 WRs that I don't believe offer any value on DraftKings. Check it out!
Top Value WRs to Add
1. Sammy Watkins, L.A. Rams
Watkins can be added to your NFL DFS Team for Week 1 for only $6,200. Although Sammy plays with a second-year QB, that second-year QB is going to benefit from learning Sean McVay's system. McVay turned Kirk Cousins into one of the most sought after young quarterbacks in the NFL.
Watkins couldn't ask for a better matchup in Week 1. The Indianapolis Colts defense ranked 30 out of 32 teams last season in total yards allowed per game. Opponents passed for over 262 yards per versus the Colts. They rushed for over 120 per. Since Todd Gurley is a great RB, Indy could make a mistake and let Sammy get behind the defense.
2. Terrelle Pryor Sr., Washington Redskins
At only $6,100, DFS players should definitely consider adding Terrelle Pryor Sr. The former Ohio State quarterback signed a massive contract to play wide receiver for Washington. Pryor Sr., like Watkins, gets a sweet set-up on Sunday. Washington plays Philadelphia. But, since the D.C. team has no rushing game to speak of, Pryor could be a Mr. Everything ala Slash Stewart on September 9. I believe he's worth adding comparable to his salary.
3. Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers
Adams is on DraftKings for $5,200. He could be one of the top fantasy point getters in Week 1 because Seattle has no choice but to double Jordy Nelson. Adams had a nice breakout season in 2016. He figures to keep the good times rolling versus a Seattle defense that could be towards the end of its dominant run.
NFL Week 1 WRs to Avoid
1. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys
I hate the match up Dez has with the New York Giants. The Giants D allowed 251.1 passing yards per game last season. That total should go south this season. Safety Landon Collins could win NFL Defensive MVP. The Giants' front seven should get to Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott on passing downs. Don't expect the G-Men to give Ezekiel Elliott any breathing room, either. If Elliott gets no room to run, Bryant won't be open down field.
2. Amari Cooper, Oakland Raiders
Amari Cooper is one of the better wide receivers in the NFL. The problem I have with adding Amari to any NFL DraftKing DFS Teams is that he just doesn't have huge games. That's a problem for me because his salary cost is around $7,200.
Oakland QB Derek Carr is as likely to throw to Michael Crabtree in the red zone as he is to throw to Amari Cooper. I don't see Cooper having a big game in Week 1 versus a Tennessee Titans D that should be much improved. Even if he does, Amari could have 100 yards receiving without a TD while Crabtree racks up 60 yards receiving and scores 2 TDs.
3. T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts
$6,900 for T.Y. Hilton? That makes no sense to me. QB Andrew Luck didn't practice Wednesday. It's doubtful he takes the field on Sunday. Stay away from all Indy receivers until Luck is confirmed to play. That goes for every week this season.
