It's NFL Week 2 Monday Night Football. The New York Giants battle the Detroit Lions on Monday, September 18. The two other teams for my NFL Week 2 DraftKings Monday Night Showdown Team are the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49'ers. The Rams and Niners battle in NFL Week 3's Thursday Night Football Game.
QB – Jared Goff, $5,200, L.A. Rams at San Francisco – After a sterling performance versus the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, Jared Goff fell back down to earth. Goff only completed 60% of his passes for 224 yards against the Washington Redskins.
In a way, it made sense. After all, Rams HC Sean McVay developed Washington's offensive system. If any team in the NFL is capable of stopping McVay's offense, it should be Washington's defense, right? I'm giving Goff a mulligan for his Week 2 performance.
I think he has a decent game versus San Francisco on Thursday. The 49'ers defense has been exceptional at stopping the pass. That should change on Thursday against McVay's offense.
RB – Todd Gurley II, $6,800, L.A. Rams at San Francisco – The 49'ers defense allowed Seattle to rush for 131 yards in Week 2. Carolina rushed for 116 yards in Week 1. Gurley hasn't gone off yet. There's a chance he could do it this Thursday night. He actually ran well versus Washington. TG averaged 5.5 yards per carry for 88 yards. He scored a TD.
RB – Carlos Hyde, $5,200, San Francisco vs L.A. Rams – It's tough to add a Detroit running back to my NFL Week 2 Monday Night Showdown Team. Detroit RBs face an uphill battle against the Giants' defense. New York Giant running backs aren't any better. It's difficult to even know what Giant running back gets the most carries versus the Detroit Lions.
I'm going with Carlos Hyde, the 49'ers very best skill player. Hyde rushed for 124 yards from 15 carries versus the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.
WR – Sammy Watkins, $5,500, L.A. Rams at San Francisco – Eventually, Watkins is going to have a big game. My guess is that it happens this Thursday versus the San Francisco 49'ers defense. The 49'ers are good at rushing the quarterback. There's a chance this blows up in my face. I'm still taking a shot.
WR – Sterling Shepard, $4,900, NY Giants vs Detroit – The Giants may or may not play wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr on Monday night. Odell's status is up in the air. I don't believe Beckham Jr. plays. I can't go with Brandon Marshall in this spot. The Giants should build an offense around Shepard since they have absolutely no rushing attack.
WR – Golden Tate, $6,800, Detroit at NY Giants – Tate had 10 receptions for 107 yards in Week 1's victory over the Arizona Cardinals. He's still QB Matthew Stafford's top wide receiver.
TE – Evan Engram, $3,200, NY Giants vs Detroit – Engram is arguably the best tight-end on the board. After last week's abysmal offensive performance versus a so-so Dallas Cowboys' defense, expect the Giants to do much more than just pray for Odell Beckham's return. Engram should have a much better game at home on September 18.
FLEX – Pierre Garcon, $5,300, San Francisco vs L.A. Rams – Garcon only caught 3 passes for 26 yards versus the Seattle Seahawks. He should have a much easier time of it against the Rams' defense on Thursday at home.
DST – NY Giants, $3,400, vs Detroit – The Giants' defense is at home on Monday night versus a Detroit offense without a rushing attack. Detroit got behind the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. The Lions needed a Herculean effort from QB Matthew Stafford to win the football game. No such effort should be on display on Monday night.
