I've put together an MLB DraftKings Team for Friday, Sept. 1. I decided not to use pitcher Clayton Kershaw even though he throws at Petco Park today. Kershaw can be had for an incredible $13,500. He's easily the highest-cost MLB DFS player today.
I'm rolling with Kevin Gausman and Sonny Gray. Check out the team.
MLB DraftKings Team for Friday, September 1
P – Kevin Gausman, $8,700, Baltimore vs Toronto – Gausman was brilliant in his last start against the Boston Red Sox. On August 26, he allowed only 4 hits, 0 earned runs, and struck out 5 in 7.2 innings. The Blue Jays bat .306 versus Gausman. But, Toronto's been in a funk lately. The Jays have lost 6 of their last 8.
P – Sonny Gray, $8,800, New York Yankees vs Boston – Gray's pitched well since coming over from Oakland. His last versus Seattle was his best start yet. He pitched 7 innings, allowed 1 earned run off 3 hits, and struck out 9. From 110 at-bats, Boston has a .236 BA versus Gray.
C – James McCann, $3,200, Detroit vs Cleveland – McCann didn't play yesterday. He figures to definitely sit behind the plate today. That's good news because for only $3,200, daily fantasy players can add a catcher that is 1 for 1 versus today's Cleveland starter, Mike Clevinger. Great? Heck, no. But, McCann definitely offers value at his salary.
1B – Chase Headley, $3,500, New York Yankees vs Boston – Doug Fister is Boston's listed starter today. Headley can be added for only $3,500. He has 4 hits from 7 at-bats versus Fister for a .571 BA. That's not bad value at all.
2B – Jonathan Schoop, $4,600, Baltimore vs Toronto – Schoop is 4 out of 10 with 2 doubles versus Joe Biagini, Toronto's listed starter today. Schoop has never struck out to Biagini. That's an excellent sign.
3B – Manny Machado, $5,300, Baltimore vs Toronto – Machado's only got 3 hits from 11 at-bats versus Biagini. Manny's been hot, though. In his last 11 at-bats, he's got 4 hits. 2 went for home runs. He's scored 3 runs. He's produced 3 RBIs. He's only struck out once.
SS – Francisco Lindor, $5,100, Cleveland at Detroit – Francisco Lindor is 2 out of 4 versus Buck Farmer. More importantly, Farmer has a 6.17 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Lindor's batting .271 with 25 home runs and a .327 OBP.
OF – Ryan Braun, $3,200, Milwaukee vs Washington – Braun's only faced Tanner Roark 10 times. He's got 4 hits. One of the hits went for a triple. Braun's hit safely in the Brewers last 3 games. There's some hope here.
OF – Melky Cabrera, $3,200, Kansas City at Minnesota – Cabrera's 4 out of 10 versus Dillon Gee. He only has 1 hit in his last 12 at-bats. That could be a problem. Or, seeing Gee on the mound could help Melky get onto a hot streak. I'll be hoping for the latter.
OF – Adam Jones, $4,400, Baltimore vs Toronto – Jones is 4 out of 8 versus Biagini. That's a .500 BA. I don't see how Baltimore scores less than 10 runs versus the Jays today. I'm riding the O's on Sept. 1.
