One of my favorite football fantasy strategies is to combine a quarterback and wide receiver. I didn't in Week 1 because the salaries on DraftKings are allowing us to add some dynamite players across the board. For example, RB Todd Gurley is at $6,000 this week. He could go up to $7,000 in Week 2 if he performs the way I believe he will.
Still, I believe in the strategy so much that I've listed the Top 5 QB and WR combinations for Week 1.
Top 5 QB and WR Fantasy Combinations for Week 1
Green Bay Packers – QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Davante Adams
Rodgers should light up the scoreboard with plenty of throws against a Seattle defense that isn't nearly as formidable as it was 2 seasons ago. I like Rodgers to get close to 400 passing yards and to throw 3 to 4 TD passes.
I don't think it's wise to put Rodgers with WR Jordy Nelson. A good rule when putting together a QB/WR combo fantasy strategy is to not overspend on at least one of the players, quarterback or wide receiver. If you go Rodgers, and you should, go Davante at WR, not Jordy.
Oakland Raiders – QB Derek Carr and WR Michael Crabtree
Carr and Crabtree hooked up for 89 pass catches, 1,0003 yards, and 8 TDs last season. Crabtree can be added to your DraftKings DFS team for $6,000 while Amari Cooper costs $7,200. Carr to Crabtree could pay big dividends because Oakland faces one of the best rushing defenses in the entire NFL in Week 1.
Tennessee only allowed 88 yards rushing per game last season. Since the Titans must pay attention to Cooper, Crabtree could be the highest fantasy point gainer for the Raiders on Sep. 10.
Cincinnati Bengals – QB Andy Dalton and WR A.J. Green
Dalton can be placed on all DraftKings NFL Fantasy Classic DFS Teams for $5,200. That's a mighty low number for a QB that could have a major game against a Baltimore Ravens defense that doesn't always stop the pass.
The hefty price tag in this QB and WR Combination belongs to WR A.J. Green. Green is at $8,000 on DraftKings. Based on the salary, DFS players expect Green to have a major game in Week 1.
Washington Redskins – QB Kirk Cousins and WR Terrelle Pryor Sr.
Both Cousins and Pryor Sr. are at less than $6,500 each to add to all DFS Teams. Cousins is at $6,400. Pryor Sr. is at $6,100. That might be doable for some NFL Fantasy DraftKings players that wish to add the QB/WR combo.
Pryor Sr. got a huge contract to play in D.C. Cousins is hoping for a huge contract after this season. Both could be over $7,000 players next week if they light up the scoreboard versus Philadelphia's secondary.
New York Giants – QB Eli Manning and WR Brandon Marshall
This is the best low salary cost QB and WR combination for Week 1. This QB and WR combination is only going to cost $10,700 in total salary. Eli's at $5,600. Marshall's at $5,100.
For those NFL Fantasy DFS players that wish to spend salary cap dollars elsewhere, this combination makes a ton of sense. Odell Beckham Jr. is out. What it means is that Manning to Marshall could be the combination that puts points on the board for the G-Men at home versus the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.
